SCHOOL DRESS CODE

If you haven’t looked through the handbook yet this year please remember to take a look at the dress code section.

Tank top shirts or dresses in particular are not allowed in school, tops of shoulders must be covered.

As Christians, we believe that our bodies are a gift from God, and that we should clothe our bodies appropriately. Because of this, all students are expected to dress in a neat, clean, respectful, and modest manner, and follow the school dress code.

Also, if a dress or skirt is worn to school, please ensure that they have attached shorts or shorts are worn underneath.

 

BWW FUNDRAISER

September 30th is our fundraiser through Buffalo Wild Wings!  Supporters may show a ticket or digital image BUT AT LEAST need to mention the fundraiser for dine in or takeout to the staff person at the sports bar for the EWRF receipt to be counted toward the contribution back to our school.

Printed copies of the ticket are in the office


VOLLEYBALL GAME - MARSHALL

Thursday, 9/19 we have a game at Samuel Lutheran School in Marshall.  Since it takes just over 90 minutes to get to Marshall, we will plan on players leaving school at 2:30.  

Parents who are driving players please be at IGLS by 2:20 on Thursday, 9/19.

We could use 1 additional driver for tomorrow's game in Marshall that can take at least 4 players.

Here is the sign-up for volunteer drivers, if you are available, please click on the link and sign-up.  AS THE QUANTITY please select how many players you can fit in your vehicle.  

 

PARENT DRIVE DAY

We have several of these throughout the school year as the public school takes more professional development days.

Our next Parent Drive Day is Friday, September 27th.  There will be no bussing this day so please plan accordingly.

PRESCHOOL FIELD TRIP

On October 8th the 3yr and 4yr preschool rooms will be going on a field trip to Nelson’s Farm.  Leaving after snack at about 9:15 and returning for lunch at 12:00.

Each child and attending chaperone is $10 per person, please have your admission fee brought in to school and given to teachers.

They will be outside most of the time so please dress appropriately.


PRESCHOOL (3): Miss Lokensgard

This week we are learning all about the letters in the alphabet as we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Dr. Seuss ABC. We are also reading books about going to school. We are still learning how to be a good friend and how to have good table manners.  Bible lesson this week is the Sneaky Snake.

In the activity center we are learning how to make patterns, build shapes with Q-tips, coloring sheets of the number 4, and matching the letters game.  

Monday- We had our first scribble lesson. We made a scribble monster!! We also watercolor our Bible sheet. 

Tuesday- We did our phonics sheet. We are learning the letter Ii this week. Late afternoon we had our large motor activity outside with the other preschool room. We are playing a game tomorrow called the sharing circle; they are learning how to share with friends.  We love playing with “the big kids”. 

Wednesday- At the writing center we are practicing writing and erasing the letter Ii on chalkboards. STEM activity we are learning how to use scissors!! 

Thursday- We are learning how to spell our names. At art time we are coloring a coconut tree then gluing on the letters of the alphabet like we read in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book. 

Friday- We are going to practice one on one counting and finding the number to match. Square is the shape we have been focusing on these past two weeks. We are going to put stickers on a square.  Show-N-share is also on Friday.

 

PRESCHOOL (4): Mrs. Dragt

          This week preschoolers are learning the letter Ii, number 3, color blue and the shape triangle.

            Monday: We ripped paper and glued the pieces inside the bubble letter to make our letter Ii.  We also drew our emotions and colored them by coloring on tin foil, then used a spray bottle to get the tin foil wet and we placed our emotion picture on top to absorb the colors.

            Tuesday: We practiced our kicking skills in Movement. We learned how to control the ball and kick it to friends. We also practiced tracing the letter Ff.

            Wednesday: We learned all about magnets. That magnets stick to metal and that they also have a north and south end. We also worked on making our number 3’s with play-dough and counting number 3 out with linking blocks.

            Thursday: We worked on tracing our number 3’s and made a noodle sneaky snake for our Jesus craft.

            Friday: Show-and-Share is bring something that makes you happy!!!  We worked on our names by writing the letters of our names in circles, then we cut the circles out and glued them down in the right order.

            Our bible lesson is The Sneaky Snake.  We learned that Adam and Eve fell into sin when they listened to the sneaky snake (devil) and ate the fruit from the forbidden tree.

Our Memory Treasure: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son.”  John 3:16

 

K-1st: Mrs. Eckstrand

This week our Bible story is God save's Noah and his family.  We learned how God destroyed the world with a flood, but promised to save Noah and his family.  Noah built the Ark and took 3 of every kind of animal with them on the ark.  When they finally left the ark, God sent the first rainbow to promise never to flood the whole Earth again.  Noah and his family thanked and praised God for keeping them safe.  Hebrew 10:23b "For he who promised is faithful" is our Memory Treasure.  

If you didn't hear or know, on Friday, the children do say their Memory treasure by heart to earn a sticker.  We go through it a lot at school, but extra encouragement always helps.  

Kindergarten met Cass /c/ for their first superkid.  She loves to cook concoctions.  Creeping Crocodiles! We got our Reading activity books too 😊

1st Grade, is reading from their new Readers finally.  So much excitement learning what their superkids did over the summer. Spelling will begin next week.  We will try for one list per week, but there may be gaps to keep it in line with their reading books.  

Kindergarten Math is really focusing on making sure our 5 and 1o frames match their numbers.  We will have our first test on Wednesday, then We're fine tuning our number writing 1-5.  1st grade math had their test on measurement.  This week they will look at hour, half hour, as well as reading time on the clock  

Social Studies has us learning about people and their customs and culture.  We will start with the Native Americans that met and introduced the explorers to the land. 

In Science we will experiment with rainbow making. 

In Music, we have learned our church songs and have begun our K-4 musical for November.  


2-4th: Mr. Loersch

This week in Word of God we are studying God’s protection of baby Jesus as Jesus and his parents flee to Egypt to escape King Herod. 

In 2nd-grade math, we are beginning our second unit which focuses on the interaction of odd and even numbers. 3rd grade is reviewing their Unit 1 content and will begin Unit 2. The 4th graders are also reviewing Unit 1 and beginning work with Unit 2.In Language Arts, 2nd graders are studying contractions and homonyms.3-4th graders finished reading "Stone Fox", and start their grammar unit on prepositions this week.For Physical Education, students are learning how to kick a soccer ball and play cooperatively.Finally, in Art, students are water coloring to learn about the primary and secondary colors in the color wheel.

 

5-8th: Mr. Holz

Hello Parents, Family and Friends

In Math, 5th Graders have taken their first test and will be moving into multiplication and division. 6th Graders are working with basic algebraic expressions. 7th Graders are working with algebraic expressions and tables. 8th Graders are reviewing for their first test on the basics of algebra.

In Science, we have finished work on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. We will be moving into genetics and DNA next.

In Music we will be learning the new song that we will be singing at churches throughout the year. We are working on the sign language for the different songs this week. 

In Grammar the 5th-6th Graders are working on nouns. The 7th-8th Graders are working on pronouns. 

In Reading, we will be finishing covering how to read a novel and we will start our novels next week. 

In Spelling, we are working on the first lesson. The spelling tests are every Friday.
