GERTEN’S FLOWER ORDER
Flowers will be available for pickup TODAY Wednesday, September 16th between 3:00-6:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church parking lot (directly across from the school), 20882 Walden Ave, Hutchinson, MN 55350.
We ask you to park in the church parking lot as students are always bustling through the school parking lot.

ART & CHESS CLUB (Grades 5-8)
Will be separate this school year and start in October. Space is limited to ensure a safe and hands-on environment. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Other grades may open up depending on interest.

What: IGLS is hosting an after-school art club where students in grades 5 - 8 can gather and do group art projects, individual projects like painting, drawing, crochet, clay, etc...
When: First Monday of the month

What: IGLS is hosting an after-school chess club where students in grades 5 - 8 can gather and learn to play chess or improve on their skills.

Snack Donations: We are asking for donations of individually packaged, nut-free snacks. After a long school day, our students often need a quick energy boost to help them stay focused and active.
MAP TESTING
K – 8th grade will begin our MAP standardized testing next week, September 21st-25th.
Please help your child to get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast these days!
NWEA MAP testing, or Measures of Academic Progress, is a computer -adaptive assessment used by schools to measure individual student achievement and track academic growth in subjects like Math, Reading, Language Usage, and Science.
PARENT DRIVE DAY
Friday, September 25th is our first Parent Drive Day of the school year.
There is no bussing available.
PRESCHOOL: Miss Lokensgard
We are talking about all the fun things we do with our family. We are reading books about different families and how families love each other. Our other focus this week is learning about good choices and wrong choices in the classroom. I am acting them out to see if they know what is the good choice. We are also excited to learn about Mat Man this week. Mat Man has big curves, little curves, big lines, and little lines. By building Mat Man we are able to draw a person. We can draw our family.
Our bible story this week is the Sneaky Snake. The story is about how Eve was tempted by the serpent and did not listen to God and ate the fruit. Our memory treasure is For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son. John 3:16
Monday- Writing Center: We learned how to draw swills on a sheep. Activity center: Practiced cutting.
Tuesday- Writing Center: Practicing our stencil skills. Activity Center: Glue on pictures that match the creation's story.
Wednesday- Writing Center: Draw our family. Activity Center: Make a shape collage.
Thursday- Writing Center: September name page. Activity Center: Match the stickers to the colored dots.
Friday- Writing Center: Roll the dice and dot the dots. Activity Center: Feelings memory game.
PRESCHOOL: Mrs. Dragt
Welcome To Family Week!
Monday - We made a Creation chart with stickers. I didn't realize it would be such a big project
for them until they started, but they ROCKED IT!!! They sat down and concentrated like superstars, and I was super proud of them! Please, make sure you check out their hard work hanging in the hallway!
Tuesday - We learned about some of our emotions. We played find the emotion. I had some
emoji faces on the floor: happy, sad, mad, scared, and tired. When I shouted out an emotion, they had to run, find that emoji, and talk to their friends/group about what makes them feel that emotion.
Wednesday- We worked on our colors. We played a find the color in the room game. I hung
colored paint marks around the room, and they walked around, found the colors, matched them to their sheet, and colored it in. I also introduced Mr. Scribble! He is one of our Little Spots to help us learn about our feelings. Mr. Scribble feels many emotions at once and is trying to figure out what they all mean.
Thursday - We worked on our names. We colored and cut out a pencil, then glued circles onto
it with each letter of our name. We also learned about and made family trees.
Friday - Show and share on Friday: bring in a family photo! We worked on our letters by
matching letter stickers onto a smiley face.

KINDERGARTEN: Mrs. Eckstrand
This week our Bible lesson is Cain's sin, God's love. We learned Cain let sin grow in his heart and he killed his brother. God loved Cain so much that instead of ending Cain's life, he allowed Cain to live. This was so that Cain could realize what he did and turn his heart towards God. It was Cain's Time of Grace. Luke 11:28 But he said Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. In Reading, we met our first Superkid. Her name is Mya and she loves mmmmaking things. We are focusing on the /m/ beginning sound and Mm formation.
In Math, we learned left and right, and are starting to sort with same/similar/ different.
In Writing, we are still going through all the letters to form them correctly.
We've got our church songs learned, now we are making them great.
Last Friday, we talked about the events and heroes of 9/11 Never Forget. Tuesday this week we celebrated National Dot Day. We want to make sure that the mark we make on someone else is a good dot. Check out our dot art in the hall. 😊
1-2nd: Mrs. Markgraf
This week our class is jumping into our core lessons. In math first graders are reviewing numbers to 10 and different ways to represent them. Second graders are focusing on place value in ones, tens and hundreds. In reading first grade is reviewing letter formation and letter-sound correspondence. Second graders are doing an overview of initial and final blends. Our Bible lessons are Wise Men Worship the Savior and Herod's Wicked Plan. We see that the Savior is both worshiped and hated as King. Our Memory Treasure is Isaiah 43:11, "I, yes I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior." May God bless your week!

Happy Wednesday!
Despite a rainy Monday, we’re having an awesome week of school! In Word of God, we are continuing to learn about Jesus’ birth and especially the events that took place after he was born (Jesus taken to the temple, the wisemen visiting, etc.).
We are wrapping up chapter one in math, which is all about number sense. Fifth grade will begin chapter two (writing and evaluating expressions) this week, and next week third and fourth will begin addition and subtraction.
In Language Arts, we will continue to learn about fables, myths, legends and variants as we move into prepositional phrases and adverbs in Grammar.
In Social Studies we are looking at the different qualities and features of a map (such as what different colors on a map represent).
6-8th: Mr. Holz
Hello Parents, Family and Friends,
In Math we are working to get our multiplication tables down perfectly to help us throughout the year. Each of the classes are working through the basics, such as PEMDAS, basic equations, etc. In Grammar we will be memorizing prepositions and begin to implement them. In Reading we are currently reading the short story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling. In Science we will be covering the basics of the structure of the earth. In US History we will be studying the first explorers who came to the Americas.
