PRESCHOOL (3): Miss Lokensgard

Bug week is here! The science center is full of bugs-find bugs in dirt bottles, bug fossils, and the sensory table is full of rice and bugs. We are focusing on the life cycle of butterflies. I also got real caterpillar bugs that we get to watch them make a cocoon and turn into butterflies. We are going to name each one. The playdough table has bugs to make their own fossils and the writing center has connected the dots bugs and bug stickers. At the activity center we are making shapes with popsicle sticks, matching the letter with the correct close pin, water drop counting with an eye dropper, and building the letter Ww and the number 10 with paint and Q-Tip.

Tuesday- Writing center: Phonic page. Large Group: Show-N-Share.

Wednesday- Writing center: April name portraits. Large Group: Jesus died for me; project.

Thursday- Writing Center: Scribble Scrabble lesson on how to draw a caterpillar. Large Group: Bug movement

Friday- STEM: We are making a bug hotel.

This week we have a bible lesson where Jesus died on the Cross. Memory treasure: Forgive us our sins. Luke 11:4

PRESCHOOL (4): Mrs. Dragt

Welcome to butterfly and bee week!

Wednesday—In science, we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. We also made butterflies, putting paperclips in the middle and making them fly!

Thursday- In our large motor activity, we crawled, wiggled, and ran like insects. In our small group activity, we worked on making the number 9.

Friday- In art, we made butterflies with pipe cleaners and coffee filters and then painted them. In centers, we worked on measuring, rhyming, and opposites. Our Jesus story this week is Jesus Is Alive! We learned that Jesus had risen from the tomb and wanted his disciples to meet him in Galilee. ...he has risen, just as he said. Matthew 28:6

K-1st: Mrs. Eckstrand

This week our Bible lesson focuses on Doubting Thomas. We learned that Thomas would not believe unless he saw Jesus risen. We too can have doubts in our life, and we have to trust in God without seeing him. Our faith is what helps us remember and do this. We found ourselves in the Bible too! John 20:29b Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Did you find yourself in that verse? God really is amazing!

In Math, Kindergarten is finishing up Subtraction. It was only a little trickier than addition, but still "too easy" they tell me. 1st grade will be reaching high as they break down place values for numbers up to 100... 2-digit math is coming soon to a 1st grader near you.

In Reading, Kindergarten is enjoying Cass as the Super noodle, doing all sorts of Mmmmm activities. We're also enjoying taking "spelling tests" like the 1st graders... are you catching a theme? 😊 1st grade finished their first Word work book and is moving on from vowel pairs to contractions, get those apostrophes ready cause we aren't going to be owning things with these ones. Our contractions spelling test is on April 29.

In Science, they will finish their space adventures with Mr. Holz this week by flying to the last 4 planets... or 5 for those who just know. Our decent back to Earth might be rough, but it was worth the 3-week journey.

The class earned their final puzzle piece Tuesday, that sets them up for the movie "UP" on Friday afternoon. Thank you for making this possible for them, they are only a little teensy bit excited. "See, cumulonimbus!"

In writing, 1st graders wrote their opinions on outdoor activities that they like and don't like. Kindergarten is working on writing more than just a few words by tracing and reading paragraphs.

HE IS RISEN!

2-4th: Mr. Loersch

Hello Parents and Students!

In God's Word this week we continue to study Jesus's victory over sin, death, and the devil as he dies on the cross and rises from the grave. We know that His sacrifice was payment once and for all. There is no more condemnation for our sins!

In Language Arts, 2nd graders are learning about past, present, and future tenses. 3rd and 4th graders begin their literature circles. Groups are divided into 4 or 5 people and each student has a job to do as we read the book. We will do these circles twice through, so everyone will have a chance to do each job twice.

In Math, 2nd graders continue to work with money. 3rd graders are working with simplifying and comparing fractions. 4th graders are learning about various U.S. customary units such as weight, capacity, and time.

In Social Studies we continue to work with maps and orienteering. We are designing our own map of school with a key, compass rose, and map scale. This Friday we have a special presentation from Southpoint Financial for our class. Each student will get a tree to take home and plant.

Book reports are due NEXT WEEK FRIDAY! Please make sure your student is making progress on that long term project. God bless your week!
