GERTENS PICKUP

PRESCHOOL (3): Miss Lokensgard

This week we are focusing on bumble bees and butterflies. We are singing songs with rhythm sticks and scarves. Singing songs about bugs and spring weather. We are also learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We read about the very hungry caterpillar and how a bee makes honey. The sensory table is filled with bee things and the science table has different bugs to explore. The playdough table has bugs to make bug houses. We are learning the letter Ww, The shape circle, The color grey, and the number eleven.

Monday- Writing Center: Letter Ww phonics page. Activity Center: Painted one side of a butterfly then folded it in half.  It teaches symmetry in a hands-on way, encourages creativity with color, and creates a magical "reveal" moment.

Tuesday- Writing Center: Practicing writing in sand. Activity Center: Making crosses with tissue paper.

Wednesday-Writing Center:  Practice spelling, finding and writing our name. Activity Center: Plant Grass

Thursday- Writing Center: Learn how to draw a butterfly for our scribble scrabble unit. Activity Center: Make a circle college.

Friday- Writing Center: Roll the dice game. Activity Center: Hi Ho Cherrio.

The bible story this week is Jesus dies on the Cross. Memory treasure. Forgive us our sins. Luke 11:4

PREKINDERGARTEN (4): Mrs. Dragt

Welcome to Bumble Bee Week!

Focus Wall

Letter- Ww

Number- Review

Color -Pink

Shape- Hexagon

Monday - We did a scary/hard-looking color-by-number worksheet!

I assured them I would give them anything that I knew they couldn't handle, and they rocked it!

Come to find out, it wasn't as hard as it looked! LOL

Tuesday - Show and share: bring in something green. We are continuing to work on writing our

numbers 1-20 and figuring out that we need to put spaces between our numbers. They are

starting to get the hang of it!

Wednesday - In our STEM activity, we made little bees and transferred “pollen” from one flower

to the next. In our centers, we are matching uppercase and lowercase letters and counting,

Thursday - We will work on making the letter Ww. In movement, Ms. Lokensgard has a fun bug

movement game for us all to play.

Friday - In our Jesus story, we learned how Jesus ascended to heaven. So, for our art project,

we are making a craft with cups, string, and a picture of Jesus that represents Jesus’ ascending

into heaven!

In our classroom, we have been working on saying the words “I am still learning, I will keep trying!” instead of “I can’t.” Please encourage them to say these words at home!

Our Jesus story is Jesus Returns to Heaven. Memory Treasure “I am with you always.” Matthew 28:20

KINDERGARTEN: Mrs. Eckstrand

This week our Bible lessons are "Jesus' Ascension" and "God sends the Holy Spirit".  We learned that Jesus ascended back into heaven and gave the disciples 1 special gift and 1 job.  His gift is the Holy Spirit who helps strengthen our faith and give us courage to share the gospel to all creation. Then we learned how the Holy Spirit came to the disciples in Jerusalem in the form of fire, and 3000 were baptized on Pentecost.  Mark 16:15 He said to them 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation’ is our memory treasure.

In Reading we have found and cleaned the Big Bus for the superkids club.  We learned about the contraction Let's=Let us, and we are really enjoying our "spelling tests."

In Math we are putting together and breaking apart all the number bonds for 5-10.  These are the foundation for all the adding and subtracting they will continue to do.

In Science we are breaking the animals into their kinds.   We also are drawing the inside of our duckling eggs... We've all been able to see a duckling so far 😊

On Friday, we will have 2 guest teachers in our room.  They will be learning and observing how pur school and kids use and do Superkids reading successfully.

1-2nd: Mrs. Markgraf

Hello IGLS families!

In math this week first graders are wrapping up their long chapter about addition and subtraction. Boy, have they learned a lot! Second grade is almost done with their short time telling chapter. Some students love watching the clock and practicing telling the time.

It just so happens that both groups are practicing words with open syllables in reading this week. Open syllables are a word part where the vowel is at the end and makes the long sound. This helps us decode new, longer words.

Our Bible stories are Elijah Goes to Heaven, A Boy Comes Back to Life and Naaman Is Brought to Faith. Our Memory Treasure is 1 Timothy 2:3-4, God our Savior . . . wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Our class works together to fill up a jar of marbles that we earn with awesome behavior. They filled up the jar this week, and enjoyed a day of getting to keep a stuffed animal at their desks and had a little treat.

3-5th: Mrs. Horn

Happy Wednesday Parents, Students, and Families!

This week is a fairly normal week in the classroom with a few added bonuses! We certainly don't have many weeks left of school so we are getting as much as we can done!

In Christ Light, we are learning about how God used the prophet Elisha to help others and Jonah to preach to others. We are going to discuss WELS missions and missionaries as a part of these lessons.

In Math, we had a fun day on Monday working together to complete a math activity that involved solving problems about running, time, paces, and races. It was Boston Marathon day and Mrs. Horn's brother ran it, so we were able to watch him finish on the live results! As we get back to our normal lessons, 3rd grade is learning about area and perimeter. 4th grade is multiplying and dividing decimals. 5th grade is learning how to multiply fractions.

In Reading, we are continuing our novel "The War that Saved My Life." As we near the end of the book in the next few weeks, we'll be concluding the novel study with some new mini projects and activities.

In Language Arts, 3rd grade is working on adverbs. 4th grade and 5th grade is working on different types of adjectives.

In Science, we are continuing our exploration of the seasons and the solar system.

In PE, we will be starting some new activities, lessons, and games, including some track and field activities. Please remind your child to have proper shoes and attire for the weather as we'll likely be outside a little more in the next month.

Blessings on your week!

6-8th: Mr. Holz

Hello Parents, Family and Friends,

This week:
