Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room

This week our Jesus Story is “Jesus Goes to a Wedding”. We learned about Jesus’ miracle of turning water into wine. This helps us remember that God can do anything! Our Memory Treasure is “With God all things are possible”.

Classroom funny: when asked what Jesus turned the water into, one of the students shouted “BEER!”

For Movement we are reviewing one of our spring concert songs. They can’t wait to share it with you.

Science this week is all about volcanoes! We talked about what causes volcanoes and what comes out of them. We also remembered that God keeps us safe from them and gave us scientists to help others stay safe from them.

For Social Studies we will visit the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Preschool: We have a new alphabet dancing song. We are working on letters U with a curl and V with a diagonal and point. Our number this week is 18 – “Long line down, make an S and close the gate, 18 just can’t wait”.

Kindergarten: For Reading we are working with Ettabetta and reading whole sentences. We will also be meeting our last new friend, “Hh” Hotrod. Before break set number 4 of sight words came home for your child to work on and memorize. Please keep working on these. In Math we are working on one more and one less.

Mrs. Utsch’s Room

In 1st grade Math we solved two-digit addition and subtraction problems. In Reading we applied the spelling rule for adding -er and -est endings to words with final y, and read the story “The Wish”.

The next spelling test will be Tuesday, March 15th.

In Math we estimated the length of objects using inches, measured objects to the nearest inch, and made line plots to show data. In 2nd grade Reading we decoded words with the long e spelling pattern: spelled -ey, -ine, eeze, ease, and ie, used conjunctions and, but, or or to complete sentences, identified and used compound words, and used syllables to read longer words.

In 3rd grade Math we compared fractions with the same denominator and the same numerator. In Reading we are reading “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate.

In Religion we learned about how God chose Gideon to lead the Israelites to victory over the Midianites. God gives us work to do and promises to help us and bless us just as he helped and blessed Gideon.

Mr. Gephart’s Room

Hi Parents, Family, and Friends,

Here is a look into the classroom this week.

In Reading the 4th-5th graders are reading “Tales of the 4th Grade Nothing”. Can Peter ever get along with his little brother? The 6th-8th graders are reading “The Giver”. What would life be like in a utopian society?

In Grammar the students are learning about adverbs and pronouns.

In Math the 4th graders are learning long division. 5th graders about fractions and mixed numbers. The 6th graders are learning the basics of geometry. 7th graders are learning about geometry. And the 8th graders are learning to solve quadratic equations by graphing and factoring.

In Geography we are learning more about Africa.

In History the upper graders are learning about the end of WWII and the start of the Cold War. The lower graders are learning about MN history. They are learning about the start of WWII.

In Writing we are working on making stories more interesting.
