Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room

This week our Jesus story is the Parable of the Lost Sheep. We learned that Jesus is our good shepherd. Even though there are lots of believers when we get lost to sin, He looks for us, finds us, and takes care of us. He is our Good Shepherd.

"The Lord is my Shepherd" Psalm 23:1 is our memory treasure this week.

In Science we explored sound and hearing once more and made our own telephones the good old-fashioned way (cups and string). In Social Studies we will travel to the Great wall of China. In Movement we are getting better and better at our jump roping.

Preschool: We have finished our 1-20 numbers. We will review them all and they will get to pick the special numbers to focus us on, up to 30. Our letter this week is Kk for kite, kangaroo, kiwi, and kiwi bird. We are searching the room for all the letter and matching them together with upper and lower case.

Kindergarten: In Math we are going to begin looking at number bonds for 1-10. In reading we are Fishing with Fritz. We'll have a regular reading test and a computer reading test this week also.

Mrs. Utsch’s Room

In 1st grade Math we represented, read, and wrote numbers from 100 to 120. In Reading we read and formed words with n’t contractions and decoded words with -er and -est endings.

In 2nd grade Math we used drawings and equations to represent addition and subtraction situations. In Reading class, we read words with the short u sound, decoded contractions, and practiced reading with expression.

In 3rd grade Math we told and wrote time to the minute and used A.M. and P.M. to describe time. In Reading we are reading the novel “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate.

In Religion we heard how the rich man suffered in hell because he had loved his riches instead of loving God and his Word. God wants us to remember that our greatest treasure is not found in the riches of this life but in his Word. Our other lesson was how the rich young man loved his riches more than Jesus. Our earthly riches are blessings from God that must not become more important to us than following our Savior.

Mr. Gephart’s Room

Hi Parents, Family, and Friends,

Here is a look into the classroom this week.

In Reading, the 4th-5th graders are reading “Old Yeller”. How does a dog play a big part of a boy’s life? The 6th-8th graders are reading “The Boy in the Stripe Pajamas”. It is a WWII story about a German boy befriending a Jewish boy in a prison camp.

In Grammar this week we are learning about adverbs.

In Math, the 4th graders are practicing long division. The 5th graders are learning about adding and subtracting fractions. The 6th graders are learning the basics of Geometry. The 7th graders are starting the basics of Geometry. The 8th graders are solving polynomials. In Geography we are studying France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

In History, the upper graders are studying ancient civilizations. We are currently learning about ancient Africa cultures and empires. The lower graders are learning about the start of the United States. We are studying the beginnings of the Revolutionary War.

In Writing, we are writing a paragraph on where we want to travel to and why.
