Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room

This week our Jesus story is The Parable of the Lost Coin. When a woman finds her one lost coin, she is so excited she shares her good news with her friends and family, and they celebrate. We get lost from Jesus in our sin. Yet, when we repent (say we're sorry and try not to do it again) Jesus and all of heaven celebrates! We were lost and then we were found. "For it is by grace you have been saved" is our memory treasure this week.

In Science we learned how you can tell if something is living or nonliving.

In Social Studies we are going to a climate a bit warmer than here. We'll travel to Egypt and discover if the Sphynx is living or nonliving.

For Art we practiced more with our paint brushes, and we created our very own creature.

For Movement, we've put a pause on our jump roping due to the cold. We are instead dancing in circles to the “Looby-Loo, all on a Saturday Night”.

Preschool: Our number this week is 19. “Long line down, circle then a line, 19! come dance with me!” Our letter is Ii for igloo, iguana (not lizard!), inchworm, ice, and Iron Man.

Kindergarten: In Reading we met Tik, Tak, Toc who like to have fun triple trouble. In Math we are figuring out the ten’s place and one’s place, as we break apart all those teens.

Mrs. Utsch’s Room

In 1st grade Math we made tens and ones with objects and drawings and wrote tens and ones in three different ways. In Reading we read CVVC words with -ue and -ie patterns.

In 2nd grade Math we rewrote addition and subtraction problems to solve. In Reading class, we read words with -ture and -tion, and -ea and edited sentences to make complete sentences.

In 3rd grade Math we used strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems and solved two step problems. In Reading we are reading the novel “Ramona Quimby, Age 8” by Beverly Cleary.

In Religion we heard how Mary chose to listen to God’s Word. God doesn’t want us to let anything keep us from hearing and learning his Word. We also heard how people who thought other things were more important missed the rich man’s dinner. God invites all people to believe his Word and receive the gift of heaven, but many refuse his invitation.

Mr. Gephart’s Room

Hi Parents, Family, and Friends,

Here is a look into the classroom this week.

In Reading, the 4th-5th graders are reading “Old Yeller”. How does a dog play a big part of a boy’s life? The 6th-8th graders are reading “The Boy in the Stripe Pajamas”. It is a WWII story about a German boy befriending a Jewish boy.

In Grammar this week we are learning about adverbs.

In Math, the 4th graders are learning about division. The 5th graders are learning about fractions. The 6th graders are learning the basics of Geometry. The 7th graders are learning about different graphs. The 8th graders are factoring polynomials.

This semester, Geography will take the place of science. This year, we will be studying Europe and Asia.

In History, the upper graders are studying ancient civilizations. We are currently learning about ancient Islam and how it got started. The lower graders are learning about the start of the United States. We are studying the beginnings of the Revolutionary War.

In Writing, we are practicing our descriptive paragraphs.
