PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent / Teacher Conferences are coming up next week. It is very important that the parents and teachers feel free to openly discuss any concerns or questions concerning the child's education. Two conference periods are scheduled each year, one in the fall after first quarter and one in the spring after third quarter. At least one parent is expected to come to these meetings to discuss the progress of their child. At times during the year the teacher may request a special conference with the parents just as the parents may request a conference with the teacher.

Individual emails have been sent home with links to sign-up for a time to meet with your child/children’s teacher.

PICTURE RETAKES

Has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 8th AFTERNOON. If you are getting retakes, please return your order - new pictures will be sent at no extra charge. ** Please let your child/children’s teacher know if you will be needing retakes. **

Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room

This week we had a special Bible lesson about Martin Luther and the Reformation, and for art we will be coloring and learning about the Luther's seal. We also had the Jesus story "Samuel, Samuel". We learned that Hannah's son Samuel was called directly by God to serve His people. Samuel went on to teach and preach to the people of Israel for many years. "Speak Lord...Your servant is listening" is our Memory Treasure.

We are starting to go over to church to practice our Songs for Play night! They are getting really excited to show you.

In Movement we are working on hitting a target, throwing the ball through the hoop. In Science we talked about the 4 types of clouds and what the weather means when we see them.

In Social studies, we will start becoming tourists again and look at many places and things that we can visit in our country and around the world.

Preschool: Our number this week is 4 "Down and over, down once more, that's the way we make a 4''. Our letter this week is Xx for X-ray, exit, x ray fish, and xylophone - yup it starts with X 😊

Kindergarten: In Math we are finishing up numbers 1 to 10, one more, and ordinal words. We will be taking the test for it. Shapes are up next. In Reading we are still adventuring with Alf. We are even going to adventure into the middle sounds of words.

Mrs. Utsch’s Room

In 1st grade Math we identified related facts, used addition to help us subtract, and used subtraction to help us identify an unknown addend. In Reading we recognized er and ed spelling patterns, used past-tense verbs in sentences, and used capitalization and ending punctuation marks to write sentences.

In 2nd grade Math we counted by 5’s, 10’s, and 100’s within 1,000, added or subtracted 10 or 100, identified and extended number patterns, and compared 3-digit numbers. In Reading class, we read words with r-controlled vowels (words with ar, or, er, ir, and ur) and understood the rule for adding -er to the end of words.

In 3rd grade Math we represented division by separating objects into equal groups and finding the number of equal groups. In Reading we are reading the novel “Sarah, Plain and Tall” by Patricia MacLachlan.

In Religion we heard about how Matthew followed Jesus and invited his friends to meet Jesus. Jesus has also called us to follow him. We are glad that Jesus chose us to be his followers and that we should invite others to learn about him. We also heard that some people turn away from God’s Word, but some believe it and show their faith. As we hear God’s Word, the holy Spirit gives us faith to believe it and show our faith by serving God.

Mr. Gephart’s Room

Hi Parents, Family, and Friends,

Here is a look into the classroom this week.

In Reading, the 4th-5th graders are reading “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. What could go wrong with the naughtiest kids in town? The 6th-8th graders are reading “The Hatchet”. Could you survive in the forest alone for weeks?

For the next 2 weeks we will pause grammar and focus on Forensics. We will practice our speeches, readings, plays and demonstrations.

In Math, the 4th graders are learning about time. The 5th graders are working with decimal places. The 6th graders are learning how to change fractions into decimals. The 7th graders are working with fractions. The 8th graders are working with graphs.

In Science, the 4th-5th graders are learning about electricity and magnetism. The 6-8th grades are learning about the skeletal system.

In History, the upper graders are studying ancient civilizations. We are currently on ancient India. The lower graders are learning about the start of the United States. We are studying the early Explorers.

In Writing, we are practicing brainstorming about qualities of a hero.
