Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room Last week we crossed the Red Sea with the Israelites as they escaped Egypt. This week we learned that God provided mana and quail for them to eat as they wandered the desert. God provides us with everything we need because he loves us. Our Memory Treasure is “Give us today, our daily bread”. For Movement this week we are learning to balance on one leg and then hop and jump switching between 1 and 2 legs. In Art we are working on our Thanksgiving centerpieces. In Science we will be talking about what FORCE is. For Social Studies we will talk about our Veterans and the military branches. Preschool: Our letter this week is Mm for Mana. Our number is 2, “around and back on the 2, 2 track”. Kindergarten: We are finishing up the ordinal numbers and looking at one more. We will have a chapter test this week on all the numbers from 1-10. In Reading we are still fixing Toys with Doc. We are also blending letter sounds together to read sounds and words! We have begun reading to the teachers at rest time, so don’t be afraid to let them try and read to you at home! Keep filling out your November BookIt calendars. These chilly days make for good reading time.

Mrs. Utsch’s Room In 1st grade Math we are solving addition equations by using the skill draw a picture. In Reading we are applying the spelling rules for adding endings –ing and –ed to verbs, and we read the story “The Monster Under the Bus”. Our spelling test is Tuesday, November 23rd. In Math we finished our chapters on telling time and are moving on to using a hundred chart and number line to add 2-digit numbers. In 2nd grade Reading we read words with the –oi and –oy spelling pattern, identified antonyms, and reviewed where to place a comma in a sentence. In 3rd grade Math we multiplied and divided by 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10. In Reading we are reading “Ramona Quimby, Age 8” by Beverly Cleary. In Religion we learned about how Joseph forgave his brothers. God wants us to forgive others as he forgives us and we show love to God by willingly forgiving others. We heard about how Jacob brought his family to Egypt. God carries out his plan for our lives, sometimes in ways we don’t expect. We trust God’s plan, even when things don’t go as we planned.

Mr. Gephart’s Room Hi Parents, Family, and Friends, Here is a look into the classroom this week. In Reading the 4th-5th graders are starting “Where the Red Fern Grows”. We get to see how 2 dogs change a boy’s life. The 6th-8th graders are reading “Animal Farm”. Will the pigs rule? We are also preparing for Forensics, which is scheduled for November 18th at MLC @ 3pm. In Grammar the students are learning how to identify nouns. In Math the 4th graders are learning about graphs and surveys. 5th graders are learning how to multiply decimals, 6th graders how to add and subtract fractions, 7th grader are learning about proportions, and 8th graders how to graph equations. In Writing we are writing a full paragraph, putting into practice all of the steps we’ve talked about: topic sentence, body sentence, and a conclusion. Ms. Paul is my new student teacher; she will be in the classroom until the end of the year.
