PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

It is very important that the parents and teachers feel free to openly discuss any concerns or questions concerning the child’s education.  Two conference periods are scheduled each year: one in the Fall after the first quarter, and one in the Spring after the third quarter. At least one parent is expected to come to these meetings to discuss the progress of their child.

Conferences will be the week of November 9-13th, an email will be sent to sign up for time slots.

PRESCHOOL: Miss Lokensgard

So many fun pumpkin activities are being done this week. We are learning the life cycle of a pumpkin, measuring a pumpkin with blocks, seeing if pumpkins float, and pounding golf tees in a pumpkin.  The fun list goes on and on. This week we are also focusing on the letter Hh, number 4, the shape triangle and the color orange. Our bible story this week is Joseph's new coat. Our memory verse is With God all things are possible Matthew 19:26.

Monday- Writing Center: Glued on pumpkins to spell our name. Then practiced writing our name in the pumpkin patch of the activity. Activity Center: flat orange playdough with pumpkin seeds squished in it and picked them out with tongs.

Tuesday- Writing Center: Worked on the Letter Hh phonics page. Activity Center: Pumpkin crafted with cotton balls and paint.

Wednesday- Writing Center: Glued popsicle sticks to paper to make the letter Hh. Activity Center: Rip tissue paper to make Joseph's Coat.

Thursday - Writing Center: Journal page is drawing a pumpkin patch. Activity Center: Make a silly face of leaves for the hair.

Friday- Writing Center: Dot Dot not a lot activity with gluing on pumpkin seeds on a dot. Activity Center: Fall Bingo

PRESCHOOL: Mrs. Dragt

Welcome To Pumpkin Week

Focus Wall

Letter: Dd

Number: 4

Color: Green

Shape: Oval

Monday - We did an I Spy number worksheet and found all the number 4s. First, we found

them and covered them with pumpkin seeds. Then we colored them in. We also talked about the different parts of a pumpkin. A pumpkin has skin, a stem, pulp, strands, and seeds

Tuesday - We learned how to write the number 4. “Make an L, frog hop up, and make a long

line down.” They did a great job!

Wednesday- Show and share is to bring in a picture of your carved or painted pumpkin! We

worked on our fine motor skills by playing Clip the pumpkin. Each child had a clothespin and needed to pass and grab the paper pumpkin with it.

Thursday - In art, we painted paper pumpkins with forks. For our letter recognition, we put

dinosaur stickers on the Dd.

Friday - We worked on making the letter Dd. For our STEM activity, we learned which objects sink and which float.

Our Jesus story: God’s Rules Guide Us. Memory Treasure: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

KINDERGARTEN: Mrs. Eckstrand

These last few weeks we met Joseph in our Bible lessons.  First, we learned that Jacob is his dad, and he has 11 brothers.  We also learned he was Jacob's favorite and he received a multi-colored coat.  His brothers were jealous and plotted to kill him, but instead sold him to traders going to Egypt.  Once in Egypt, Joseph ended up in prison because of a lie against him.  While God blessed him in prison, he was given the ability to interpret dreams.  This gets him in front of Pharaoh, where he was made 2nd in charge.  Though Joseph had many troubles, God stayed with him and made everything turn out for the better. Our Memory Treasure in Revelation 7:17b says He will lead them to springs of living water, And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

In Reading, we are playing sports activities with Sal while working on the /s/ sound.  We are also segmenting and blending short words.  We keep working on our onset and rime blending also.

In Math, we continue working on counting and writing our number 1-5.  2 and 3 are finally coming around...and back or around the tree again. 😊 We are also starting to read and make picture graphs.

In writing, we are making all the numbers, and reviewing the letters.  We are working on strengthening our hands for longer writing needs.

For Social Studies, we took an in-class trip to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN.  We met their eagles, watched their eagle camera on the Mississippi, and watched Jackie and Shadow with their hatchlings.  We learned that bald eagles don't get white until 5 years old.  Also, the difference between Golden Eagles and Bald Eagles.  They can do great eagle impressions too.

1-2nd: Mrs. Markgraf

Greetings families! I hope you all enjoyed your fall break. I was encouraged by our conference at St. Croix Lutheran Academy.

This week the first graders are tackling more words with blends, this time blends at the ends of words. Second graders are focusing on suffixes -ing and -ed. We learned that these endings change the tense of the word and sometimes we need to change the base word when adding them.

Second graders are finishing chapter two in math where they are using addition and subtraction strategies including bar models to show story problems. First graders are strengthening their knowledge of addition using new tools and strategies.

Our Bible stories this week show us that some reject Jesus like those in Nazareth and some accept him like the people of Capernaum. Our Memory Treasure is Luke 11:28, Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.

3-5th: Ms. Ewart

Happy Wednesday!

In Word of God, we’re looking at Jesus’ ministry on earth. He offers the woman at the well living water, the gift of eternal life that only he can give. We also see the people of his hometown, Nazareth, reject him.

In math, third grade is learning to regroup when adding and subtracting numbers in the thousands. Fourth grade is multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000, and fifth grade is starting a new chapter on adding and subtracting fractions.

In Language Arts, we’re continuing our novel studies. For grammar, third and fourth grade are learning contractions, and fifth grade is learning past participles.

God’s blessings!

6-8th: Mr. Holz

Hello Parents, Family and Friends,

In Math 6th grade is working with decimals. 7th graders are working on adding and subtracting negatives. 8th grade is working with increasingly difficult equations.

In Grammar we are moving into direct and indirect objects.

In Reading we are reading Holes and are nearly through half the book.

In Science we will be covering the basics of the structure of the earth.

In US History we will exploring the lost colony of Roanoke.
