Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room

This week our Jesus story is Come and Follow Me. We hear how Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John to catch men instead of fish. We too can share God’s good news to help catch men for Jesus.

In Social Studies we are traveling to Texas to visit “The Alamo”. It’s been nice visiting warmer places during this chilly weather.

For Art we are making snow sculptures.

In Movement we are moving and finding silly things in our hula hoop card game.

We have a clinical student every Tuesday. Miss Bartmann will be here starting next week until the end of the year.

Preschool: Our letter this week is Ii as is iguana, igloo, ice cream. Our number is 12. Long line down, around and back, number 12 look at that! We are counting with our igloo roll and count game. We are playing our assessment dot games this week too, so look for those to come home soon.

Kindergarten: In Reading we will be finishing TV time with Icky and begin Triple Trouble with Tik, Tak, and Tok. For Math we will be measuring capacity, review height, length, and weight and our big test review. We are working on our assessment games as well, so look for those soon.

Mrs. Utsch’s Room

In 1st grade Math we represented groups of 10 ones to make 1 ten, counted from any number to 120, and used objects to show a 2-digit number as tens and ones. In Reading we are identifying and distinguishing between short and long vowel sounds and associating long vowel sounds with CVVC pattern, described and used adjectives, and read the story “The Straw Horse”. Our next spelling test is Tuesday, January 25th.

In Math we used equations to represent addition and subtraction situations and used drawings and equations to represent 2-digit addition. In 2nd grade Reading we read words with the old, ost, ild, and ea spelling pattern and we reviewed compound words.

In 3rd grade math we found the perimeter of polygons. In Reading we are reading “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate.

In Religion we learned about why the Tabernacle was a special place for the Israelites, and applied how our church is a special place in which we worship God and thank him for sending Jesus to save us. We also learned about why the Israelites celebrated The Day of Atonement. God wants us to believe that Jesus shed his blood and died for the forgiveness of our sins.

Mr. Gephart’s Room

Hi Parents, Family, and Friends,

Here is a look into the classroom this week.

The 6th-8th graders are reading “Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie”. We’ll see the ups and downs of a middle school boy whose little brother is going through cancer.

In Grammar the students are learning about adverbs.

In Math the 4th graders are learning how to multiply 3- and 4-digit numbers. 5th graders are finding Least Common Multiples. The 6th graders are learning about ratios. 7th graders about fractions, decimals, and percent. And the 8th graders are learning about exponents.

We will begin Geography for the 2nd semester in place of science. This semester we are studying Africa, Asia, and Island Pacific.

Student Teachers

Hello! My name is Ms. Madelynn Fulton, and I am a senior at Martin Luther college. I am studying Elementary Education, with a minor in Urban Educational Ministry. I come from Oshkosh, WI and have a large family with 11 siblings. I just recently returned from Kenya, Africa, where I had the opportunity to teach and do medical work among the people in the village. I’m excited to work with these young minds in the 1st – 3rd grade classroom and use my experiences to teach them, as they teach me!
