MUSTANG TOURNAMENT
The Mustang Classic Basketball Tournament is fast approaching! We do this tournament annually at the Hutchinson Rec Center. Preparations are underway and in order to run it smoothly we are asking for volunteers to help. We have a variety of areas to volunteer in: concessions, admissions table, sweeping courts (older children can help with this), running the clock/score board for games and books. This is great experience for our players and cheerleaders, and we need as much help as we can get.
Below is the link, please sign up by February 13th so we can ask for additional help where it is needed. This is a great fundraiser for our school, and we appreciate all your help!
NO SCHOOL
Friday, February 24th we do not have school.
Mrs. Eckstrand’s Room
This week our Jesus story is The Parable of the Lost Son. We learned that no matter how far away we try to run from our Heavenly father. He will always be happy to find us and welcome us home. Through Jesus we have forgiveness for ALL of our sins, so we are welcomed home to Heaven.
Our Science this week starts the 5 senses. We heard all about our EARS and hearing first. Why do we talk quietly inside and what does all that extra do around our ear drums?
In Social studies we flew to Giza, Egypt to visit the Sphinx...Finally!
Preschool: Our number this week is 20, "long line down, around again, 20! that's plenty!!" Our letter is Hh for horse, heart, helicopter, hat, and house!
Kindergarten: We are finishing the fun with Tic, Tac, and Toc and will be meeting Fritz. We are finishing up our break down of 11-20 and will be having a math test. We start with number bonds... We have our Reading and Math computer tests this week.
Mrs. Utsch’s Room
In 1st grade Math we counted forward from any number up to 120, used objects and drawings to show a two-digit number as tens and ones, and showed a two-digit number as tens and ones in different ways. In Reading we read and formed words with n’t contractions, formed compound words, and used sequence words to explain the order of events.
In 2nd grade Math we used addition to find the difference between numbers on a number line and added 3 and 4 two-digit numbers using strategies and properties. In Reading class, we read words with -ff, ll, ss, and dd, used multiple-meaning words correctly in sentences, and used the suffixes -ful and -less in sentences.
In 3rd grade Math we used addition and multiplication to find the distance around a polygon, found the perimeter of polygons, and found the unknown lengths of sides of polygons. In Reading we are reading the novel “Ramona Quimby, Age 8” by Beverly Cleary.
In Religion we heard how the tax collector knew he was a sinner who needed God’s forgiveness. God wants us to recognize our sins, tell him we are sorry, and trust in him for forgiveness. In our other Bible lesson, we heard how a father showed love for his son by forgiving him. God loves us and forgives all of our sins.
Mr. Gephart’s Room
Hi Parents, Family, and Friends,
Here is a look into the classroom this week.
In Reading, the 4th-5th graders are reading “Old Yeller”. How does a dog play a big part of a boy’s life? The 6th-8th graders are reading “The Boy in the Stripe Pajamas”. It is a WWII story about a German boy befriending a Jewish boy.
In Grammar this week we are learning about adverbs.
In Math, the 4th graders are learning about division. The 5th graders are learning about fractions. The 6th graders are learning the basics of Geometry. The 7th graders are learning about different graphs. The 8th graders are factoring polynomials.
In Geography we are studying France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
In History, the upper graders are studying ancient civilizations. We are currently learning about ancient Islam and how it got started. The lower graders are learning about the start of the United States. We are studying the beginnings of the Revolutionary War.
