Getting ready for the school year

It may be summer, but we're hard at work getting ready for next year.

The 2020-2021 school year is fast approaching. Our theme for the year will be "Hope and a Future" which comes from Jeremiah 29:11

“I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a a future.”

God spoke those words through the prophet Jeremiah during a time of great uncertainty for God's people. Many of their leaders had been carried away as prisoners to the land of Babylon. They would live out the rest of their lives there as exiles, far removed from their families and their homeland and the temple of the Lord. So God instructed Jeremiah to write them a letter.

And in that letter, God made a promise to his people. They would live in exile for 70 years. But God would bring them back from captivity and exile. Think of what that time frame meant! The exiles receiving that letter would probably never see their homes again. But their children might. And their grandchildren definitely would.

That was God's promise to them: "Things are bad now. But I am with you. I still love you. And things will get better." And so these words give hope to us in our time. As we suffer with virus concerns and social upheaval, God reassures us that he is still in charge. He still loves us. And things will get better.

May the Lord bless you in the coming school year!
